India's Supreme Judge NV Ramana said on Thursday that the Supreme Court could do nothing about the ongoing dispute between Russia and Ukraine because the Supreme Court had filed a request to evacuate Indian students from the attack during the war in Ukraine. "What will the court do? Can I give directions to the President of Russia to stop the war?" the CJI said as the PIL was discussed for him on Thursday morning. The applicant's lawyer says that the students were prevented from crossing Romania out of Ukraine.

"On social media, I saw some videos saying what is CJI doing! We sympathise with them," the CJI said. As the counsel contesting for the PIL said, "People are freezing. They have to take care", the CJI said, "Who has to take care? The government is already doing. We will ask the AG to find out."

Following an interview with the government, the Supreme Court immediately asked Prosecutor General KK Venugopal to help the stranded students. "Please help as much as you can," CJI told Venugopal. The PIL will be sent to the AG office.

With the closure of Ukraine's airspace, India launched a special operation to evacuate Indians stranded in Ukraine on alternative routes through neighboring Ukraine. Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Thursday during Operation Ganga that 3,726 Indians would be returned to India on Thursday, eight flights from Bucharest, two from Suceava, one from Košice, five from Budapest and three flights from Rzeszow.
