A 48-year-old woman died and 14 others were injured when they fell on a train track on Sunday after part of the overpass (FoB), which they were traveling on, collapsed on the railway station. Ballarshah is located in Chandrapur district, about 175. km. of Nagpur, said those familiar with the matter.

The deceased woman is Neelima Rangari. According to a statement from the Chandrapur district media office, all the injured were shifted to Ballarpur Rural Hospital and some of them were later shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandrapur.

"One of the injured passengers, Neelima Rangari, succumbed to her injuries at a nursing home in Chandrapur," the statement said. According to information received from the Railway Department, the incident occurred at around 5:15 pm as passengers were using FoB to board from platform number 1 platform 2.

“Many passengers were using the FoB to catch the Pune-bound train when a part of it suddenly collapsed. As a result, 13 people fell about 20 feet on the track," a Government Railways Police (GRP) official was quoted as saying by PTI.

There is a huge rush at Ballarshah Airport for the Ballarshah-Wardha passenger, which departs from platform number 5, people familiar with the matter said. The weekly Kazipeth-Pune train also comes at the same time. So there is double FoB speed, said one of the people quoted above. “Many passengers use FoB to board trains to Pune. A portion of the FoB stairs collapsed suddenly and passengers fell down, injuring themselves,” said Vinay Gowda, Chandrapur district collector. No trains were running on that route at the time of the incident. The railway police in the area rushed to the injured and rescued them. District police and district administration officials are carrying out rescue operations and have helped the injured passengers, Gowda said. Maharashtra Minister for Forests, Cultural Affairs and Fisheries, Sudhir Mungantiwar, who is also Chandrapur's conservator, visited the hospital and inquired about the condition of the injured. Mungantiwar ordered the hospital administration to provide all the injured with all necessary care and facilities.

Central Railways also announced ex gratia of Rs 1 lakh to those seriously injured and ₹ 50,000 to those lightly injured. "The injured are getting the best medical care...some are being shifted to other hospitals for speedy recovery," said Shivaji Sutar, Railway Public Relations Officer. The railways also announced an initial donation of ₹ 5 lakh to the kin of the deceased.
