Amid the fourth wave of concerns about Covid-19, Delhi recorded 517 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday (April 17, 2022), 56 more than the previous day, with a positive rate of 4.21 percent, according to the Ministry of Health.

Of these new infections, the number of deaths rose to 18,668,550, while the mortality rate remained unchanged at 26,160.

Delhi has seen an increase in the number of daily Covid-19 cases in recent days. The city registered 461 Covid cases and two deaths on Saturday. On Friday, Delhi registered 366 cases, while on Thursday it was 325 cases.

Situation at a hospital in Delhi:

As of Monday morning, there were 9,662 vacancies in Delhi hospitals for patients with Covid-19. The capital now also has 9,156 vacant Covid-19 oxygen beds and 2,174 ICU beds. Up to 1,246 ventilated ICU beds will be available for patients with Covid-19 at hospitals in Delhi.

A total of 964 patients with Covid-19 are currently undergoing isolation at home in the state capital.

The DDMA, which will meet on April 20, may consider renewing the mandatory use of face masks

Due to the increase in coronavirus infections in the country's capital, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) will hold a meeting on 20 April at which it may consider renewing the mandatory use of drapes. Even those going for home isolation should go for testing," a senior doctor at LNJP Hospital told to news channel.

Dr Ritu Saxen, who heads the emergency department at Delhi's largest government facility and Covid-19 Central Hospital, said multiple meetings should be avoided and that people should wear masks and follow appropriate COVID behavior.

Dr Suranjit Chatterjee, chief internal medicine consultant at Apollo Hospital, noted that hospitalization was minimal, but bathed in "logical" and "strict" steps to assess the spread of the infection.

"Given the situation in Delhi, the DDMA meeting should have taken place a little earlier. In addition, the mandate for the masks should be renewed," he said.
