After back-to-back successes in 2019, Akshay Kumar's career has entered a downward spiral. In 2022, he released four consecutive box office disasters - Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan and Ram Setu.

With his first release of 2023 Selfiee, it looks like Akshay may be making a comeback, but the results of the Karan Johar-produced film are also impressive.

Emraan Hashmi starrer, Selfiee opened to Rs 2.55 crore on Day 1, making it one of Akshay's lowest openers of all time.

While its opening day sealed the fate of the film, its poor taste on Day 2 continued to confirm that this Akshay Kumar starrer is on its way to a terrible box office hit.

Now, as per the original estimate, Selfiee has collected Rs 10.25 crores in its opening weekend, according to Box Office India.

This means that Akshay Kumar's debut collection was three days less than the 19 days of Shah Rukh Khan's latest film, Pathan. On the 19th day, Pathan scored a total of Rs 13 crores.

Before the Shah Rukh Khan starrer release, the Hindi film industry experienced several flops including Rohit Shetty and Ranveer Singh's Cirkus, Ayushmann Khurrana's An Action Hero and Varun Dhawan's Bhediya.

After Pathan broke all the records and ended life in the struggling Hindi film industry, Bollywood is thought to have bounced back and there will be many box office hits.

But unfortunately the two big releases immediately after Pathan, Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon's Shehzada and Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi's Selfiee bombed at the box office.

While Shehzada's box office is around Rs 30 crore, Sefliee's is worse.

As for Pathan, director Siddharth Anand's John Abraham and Deepika Padukone earned more than Rs 1000 crores at the international box office and the net and domestic totals went to Rs 512 crores beating Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.
