Ranveer Singh had a memorable debut in Band Baaja Baaraaat (2010) and there was a time when he was seen as the next big thing in Bollywood. However, after the disease, the actor's musical record was greatly affected. His much-awaited film '83 (2021) failed at the box office. Jayeshbhai Jordaar (2022) was a disaster, earning only Rs. 15.59 crores. We expected a lot from Cirkus (2022). However, it does not appeal to the public. It ended its lifetime with Rs. 35.65 crores and a ‘Disaster’ verdict. The industry is abuzz with news that Yash Raj Films (YRF), the producer, has decided not to make any films, even now.

“YRF Grand Chief Aditya Chopra and his team are currently investing heavily in the YRF spy space. They recently released a full-length film with Shah Rukh Khan's Pathan (2023) and are gearing up for the release of Salman Khan's Tiger 3. They are also planning future movies in this universe. A lot is at stake as each film will be highly edited and therefore there can be no room for error. Every film needs maximum attention, from the beginning to the last mile release.

"In such a situation, a film with Ranveer Singh is the last thing on their mind. Of course, they will do a film other than Spy Universe. But out of Ranveer's six films in YRF, there was only one film that was not a flop. And this is Gunday (2014). This film was also a semi-success. Band Baaja Baaraat, Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl (2011) and Befikre (2016) are medium sized. Kill Dil (2014) with Jayeshbhai Jordaar, meanwhile, failed.

"It is also important to note that while these 6 films have made money from the sale of OTT and satellite rights, the box office returns are in the red for Yash Raj Films."

An industry expert said, "Ranveer Singh has released a hit with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. His three films with the lead - Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela (2013), Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Padmaavat (2018) - sounded scared. Apart from these movies, his overall box office record is not impressive. His only two musical films are Simmba (2018) and Gully Boy (2019).

“Look at his contemporaries. Ranbir Kapoor is starring in Brahmastra (2022) and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. Ajay Devgn has released a movie in the form of Drishyam 2 (2022). Akshay Kumar gave back to back flops but at least he delivered Sooryavanshi (2021). Even Shah Rukh Khan went back with Pathan. Meanwhile, Ranveer's last performance was more than four years ago.

Readers may recall that Ranveer Singh parted ways with talent management agency YRF in November last year. Reported that the split took place when his contract was up for renewal and asked the YRF team to reduce their commission percentage and brand promotion fees. The management of YRF Talent did not accept the request, which caused the actor to move elsewhere.

“YRF's decision to take a break from Ranveer Singh is temporary. Ranveer can be considered and if YRF finds the right script that warrants his presence, he can be cast in a reasonable budget to save the film's commercial prospects.
