A bottle was thrown at singer Kailash Kher during his concert in Hampi, Karnataka. The singer, it seems, escaped unharmed.

Singer Kailash Kher faced lynching in Karnataka's Hampi on Sunday, allegedly for not singing any Kannada. People were angry with the singer for singing Hindi songs only during the closing ceremony of Hampi Utsav, said the police.

Two residents - Pradeep, 22, and Surah, 21 - were arrested in connection with the incident and their statements were recorded, police said.

Mr. Kher could be seen working as the bottle flew towards him but missed by a hair and landed on the stage behind him. It is not a distraction from this, the singer continues to work. Seconds later, an official was seen removing the half-filled water bottle from the stage.

The three-day Hampi Utsav, which began last Friday, is an annual event organized by the Karnataka government to commemorate the legacy of the ancient Vijayanagara Empire.

Famous artistes from Bollywood and Sandalwood performed in the program which included sound and light show to showcase the glory of the world heritage site. Sandalwood singers Arjun Jannya, Vijaya Prakash, Raghu Dikshit and Anannya Bhath, and Bollywood singers Arman Mallik and Kailash Kher were among those invited to perform.

Two days before his performance in Karnataka, Kher was in Lucknow for the three-day celebration of Uttar Pradesh Diwas where he sang Sufi songs. A fortnight ago, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) workers released a song by Bollywood singer Kailash Kher praising Mayawati as "saakshaat devi" (goddess) and "embodiment of Gautam Buddha". The central party in Delhi ordered all other parties to play forced music while celebrating his birthday on January 15 as 'Jan Kalyankari Diwas'.
